This Privacy Statement applies to HARMAN’s entities in the People’s Republic of China (PRC). Please refer to the list at the bottom of this Privacy Statement for the name of Harman entities in the PRC to which you are applying that will handle your personal information.

Your consent to this Privacy Statement is at your sole discretion. However, please note that we would not be able to process your job application if you do not give us your consent, or revoke your consent to this Privacy Statement.
Scope of This Privacy Statement
This Privacy Statement applies only to information collected from applicants for recruitment purposes through this Career Site and from other sources. The other sources might include information that you provide other than through the online application page as well as information provided, for example, by referrers, and other sources. This Privacy Statement does not apply to any other site or page that the Company owns or operates. Our other sites have their own privacy policies.
The term “personal information” as used in this Privacy Statement refers to all kinds of information, recorded by electronic or other means, related to identified or identifiable natural persons, excluding information that has been anonymized.
The term “sensitive personal information” used in this Privacy Statement refers to the personal information of which the leakage or illegal use could easily lead to the infringement of a natural person’s personal dignity or harm to personal or property safety. Sensitive personal information is marked in bold and underlined to draw your attention.
Collection and Use of Personal Information
The Company’s Careers Site provides information about careers and vacancies. The Company’s Careers Site collects personal information that you as an applicant voluntarily submit or personal information that you voluntarily submit for recruitment processing purposes. A summary of the personal information collected by the Company, the purposes for collection, and how we may handle your personal information follows.
Collection and Use of Personal Information Received from Applicants
Personal Identification Information, Background Screening Information and Professional or Work-Related Information: The Company collects personal identification information and professional or employment-related information, including the following:
- Personal Identification Information: full legal name (Chinese and English), postal address, telephone number, e-mail address, signature, date of birth, ID type, country of residence, language
- Demographic Information: gender, nationality, citizenship
- Emergency Contact Information: name of emergency contact, relationship, contact information (telephone number).
- Professional or Employment-Related Information: education history (including start/end dates, name of institution, major, degree), employment history (including the current/past company, start/end dates, company name and position) and reasons for leaving, whether applied for other positions at HARMAN, confidentiality, non-competition agreement or training bonding with current and/or previous employer(s), awards or disciplines, professional training/certifications information (including completion dates, name of institution/training provider, training course/certification), salary expectations, professional references, career referees information (including name, contact number, company name, job title), career planning and intentions, workplace intentions, whether you have related to anyone in HARMAN employment and his/her name and department, whether you or your relative ever worked for any company that have business relationship or interests conflict with HARMAN.

Our processing of your Sensitive Personal Information will strictly comply with applicable legal requirements, including enhanced protection measures and the separate consent you give us to such processing.
Commercial Information
Personal Information Collected: products or services purchased.
Purposes of Use: reimbursement of interview travel expenses.
Internet Or Other Similar Network Activity
Personal Information Collected: log in / out and activity on the Company's electronic applicant systems, information regarding an applicant's interaction with the Company.
Purposes of Use: to monitor use of the Company's applicant tracking systems and Careers Site, to conduct internal audits, ensure process integrity to the applicant process.
Sensory Or Surveillance Data
Personal Information Collected: footage from on-site video surveillance cameras.
Purposes of Use: to protect the safety and security of the Company’s facilities and personnel through video surveillance.
Purposes Potentially Applicable to any of the Categories of Personal Information Listed Above
The Company also may use applicants’ Personal Information to facilitate administrative functions and information technology operations for legal reasons and corporate transactions. The legal basis for this processing of your personal information is your consent, and as permitted in laws and administrative regulations of the PRC.
The Career Site’s Use of Cookies
Retention of Your Personal Information
The personal information submitted in connection with your application for employment on the Company’s Careers Site will be retained in accordance with the laws of the PRC. Personal information submitted by applicants who are not offered employment with the Company will be retained for one year after a decision is made on the applicant’s employment, unless a shorter period is required by law. If you are hired for a position, we will retain your information for the duration of the employment relationship and for as long thereafter as required or permitted by the laws of the PRC.
No Automated Decision Making
The Company does not make any decisions concerning applications of applicants in the PRC by automated means.
How We May Share Your Information
The Company will not sell, lease, or license your personal information to any third party.
In limited circumstances, the Company may entrust a third party to process the information you submit online for the purpose of managing applicant information. We will sign strict agreements with external third parties that we entrust to process your personal information, requiring such external third parties to process your personal information in accordance with our requirements, this Privacy Statement and any other relevant confidentiality and security measures and your personal information shall not be used for any purpose other than for the purpose of the agreement.
You know and understand that, in principle, the Company will not provide your personal information to third parties. If we provide your personal information to a third party, we will strictly comply with relevant laws, regulations and policies and obtain your separate consent.
If you are hired and your applicant information becomes part of your personnel file, the Company will provide you with a notice, where required by law, that describes how your information will be shared and otherwise processed.
Cross-border Transfer of Your Personal Information
We will store your personal information collected and generated during domestic operations within the territory of the PRC in accordance with laws and regulations. In normal cases we will not transfer your personal information outside the PRC. If under certain circumstances that we need to transfer your personal information outside the PRC, we will strictly comply with the relevant laws, regulations and policies and obtain your separate authorization and consent.
Security for Your Personal Information
The Company has implemented reasonable technical and organizational measures for the purpose of protecting applicants’ personal information against accidental or unlawful destruction or accidental loss, alteration, unauthorized disclosure or access and against any other unlawful forms of processing. However, these measures are not absolutely secure, and the Company cannot guarantee the security of your personal information.
Your Rights With Respect To Your Personal Information
Pursuant to applicable law, you have the right to: (a) know how your personal information is being processed; (b) request access to your personal information; (c) request the correction of your personal information; (d) complete incomplete personal information; (e) request a copy of your personal information; (f) request deletion of your personal information; (g) restrict or refuse the processing of your personal information unless such process is required by applicable law; (h) request the transfer of your personal information to a third party; and (i) withdraw your consent to the processing of your personal information; (j) request an explanation of the Company’s personal information processing rules.

If you believe your personal information has been processed in violation of applicable data protection law, you have the right to lodge a complaint with the data protection authority.

privacy@harman.com. Residents of the PRC have the right to file a complaint with or report to data protection authorities about unlawful personal information processing activities.
Changes to This Privacy Statement
The Company may change this Privacy Statement from time to time in its sole discretion. The new privacy statement will apply to all current and past users of the online application page and to all information collected before the date of the change. The new privacy statement will replace any prior privacy statements that are inconsistent. Please check periodically for changes to this Privacy Statement, and especially before you provide any personal information to the Company.
