STAMFORD, CT – Today JBL announced its newest program, JBL Campus SoundSessions, providing more opportunities for minority students who aspire to work in music production, marketing, business, technology or engineering. The mentor program launched to address the challenges minorities face in the workforce by introducing them to professionals who work behind the scenes and at the corporate levels of the music and audio industries. With diversity at the core of JBL’s culture, JBL chose to work alongside Culture Creators, an organization created to amplify the contributions of individuals who have shaped the world’s view of Black culture by providing a platform that engages and celebrates their accomplishments. Starting this month, select HBCU students will have the unique opportunity to learn directly from JBL executives, engineers and music industry changemakers for a chance to win a $25,000 scholarship toward their education.
The JBL Campus SoundSessions are a curated set of six intimate, educational conversations that provide career insights from JBL executives and influential music industry speakers. These sessions are designed to give students a platform to ask questions, hear personal stories of growth and challenges, and expand their professional network. Accepted students who virtually attend all six of the 60-90-minute SoundSessions from January through April 2021 will receive an official certificate of completion to cite on their CV and the eligibility to apply to $50,000 in JBL SoundScholarships via a business case study competition.
“As a brand dedicated to elevating life’s experiences, it is important that we invest in the evolution of equality and representation in the music industry by breaking down barriers and providing access to resources that will inspire and teach the next generation of industry changemakers,” said Ralph Santana, Chief Marketing Officer at HARMAN. “We are thrilled to launch the JBL Campus SoundSessions as a way to support HBCU students and provide them with resources that will help elevate their career paths. A major challenge for people of color is the limited availability of mentors within their communities. Together we hope to motivate these young students to visualize the options for their future and ensure anything they dream is attainable.”
The JBL Campus SoundSessions’ curriculum will align with various cultural moments throughout the program, including National Mentorship Month, Black History Month and Women’s History Month. The program will also be promoted and available to all HBCU campuses, with students able to apply at JBLCampus.com/HBCUSoundSessions.
